  • Guess who? Historical characters:  One student will grab a character card at random and place himself back to the board. His classmates will have to give him clues about said character for him to guess.

  1. Place sentence halves → ALREADY PRINTED on opposite walls. Each half contains a clause in the past simple or past continuous. Students run to find a matching sentence half and check with the teacher:
  • I was visiting the year 3000 / when the time machine suddenly broke down.
  • We traveled to ancient Egypt / and saw the pyramids being built.
  • He didn’t realize he was in the past / until he saw a dinosaur walking by.
  • They were exploring the future / when they discovered flying cars.
  • I went back to the year 1969 / to watch the first moon landing.
  • She was stuck in the medieval period / while trying to return to the present.
  • We visited the year 2050 / and saw robots working in every home.
  • He didn’t understand how time travel worked / until he accidentally went to the future.
  • They were walking through a forest in 1800 / when they met a time traveler from the future.
  • I was in the year 2100 / when I accidentally changed history.

  • Divided into teams, students will solve RIDDLES related to time and answer them with complete sentences (IT IS A…). The first one to catch the handkerchief answers the question.
  • 1️⃣ I have 12 numbers and two hands, but I am not a person. I help you know when to wake up. What am I?(clock.)
  • 2️⃣ I can be full or new. You can see me at night, shining in the sky. What am I? (the moon.)
  • 3️⃣ I have 365 days, and I start on January 1st. What am I? (a year.)
  • 4️⃣ People always look at me, but I never move. I can be on your wrist or on a wall. What am I? (a watch.)
  • 5️⃣ I mark the end of the school week and the start of the weekend. What am I? (Friday.)


  • Guess the year (QUIZ GAME → horn). Show them films’ posters from different years for them to guess. To play in teams

  • Silent charades: Prepare two lists with movies’ names  for one student to gesticulate the word and the rest to decipher it. If they get stuck on one word they go on with the next one until they finish the whole list.

EXTRA STEPS:

  • The Missing Time Traveller: Show them clue cards with different past events related to a time traveller’s journey. Each clue has a sentence with a missing verb or pronoun. 
  • «Before Alex ______ (disappear), he had written a message on the time machine.»
  • «His last transmission said: ‘I lost ______ (my/mine) communicator in the 1800s.'»
  • «The time machine shut down because he ______ (press) the wrong button!”
